CULTURAL TOUR- ‘KANDY & SIGIRIYA’
Day 01
Proceed to Kandy the last royal citadel situated in the central hills of Sri Lanka with an exotic oriental atmosphere, picturesquely located bordering a lake & river. Kandy is a cultural sanctuary where age-old customs, arts & crafts thrive & flourish. The city’s centre of attraction is the `Dalada Maligawa’ – the temple which enshrines the Tooth Relic of the Buddha. Kandy is also renowned for its exquisite silver & gems, Kandyan jewellery & handicrafts of wood, brass & silver. The Royal Botanical gardens at Peradeniya, just outside Kandy is another significant attraction that is famed for its rare collection of Orchids and herb garden.
En route visit the 24-acre Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage- known to have the largest herd of elephants in captivity in the world. The Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage is the home to about 60 elephants, out of which many are baby elephants found, abandoned or orphaned in the wild. They are being cared, fed and trained by the wild life authorities. Participants of the tour will be provided with the opportunity of petting these lovable “babies” whilst watching them being bottle-fed. And accompany the elephants to a river close-by and watch them having their daily bath. On completion of the visit, continue to Kandy for lunch in a star class hotel.
In the afternoon proceed on a city tour of Kandy with visits to Peradeniya Botenical Gardens, Temple of the Tooth Relic, Kandy Bazaar, a Gem Lapidary and Arts & Crafts centre. In the late evening, witness a Traditional Cultural Show.

Day 02
A full day tour to explore the famous Rock Fortress of Sigiriya also renowned as the 8th wonder of the world. The Sigiriya Rock Fortress was built by a fugitive king of Sri Lanka in the 05th century AD. The rock has an impregnable retreat of steps and stairways with a palace at the very top, now in ruins. In a sheltered pocket on one side of the rock are the famous Sigiriya frescoes. In a gallery, which contained five hundred frescoes only a few remain today. Lunch in a star class hotel in Sigiriya. On completion of tour, return to Colombo.

Day 01
An early morning departure to Kandy, the Hill capital and last stronghold of the Sinhala Kings that has retained an aura of grandeur which time has not affected. Encircled by hills, with a tranquil lake in its center, it is the site of the renowned “Temple of the Tooth” and the Royal Botanical Gardens home to one of the best collections of Orchids. Kandy and its satellite villages are the center of the islands handicraft industry and its traditional dances are the most spectacular in the country.

Polonnaruwa – The city that rose to fame as the capital after the decline of Anuradhapura. Its period of greatness was from the 10th – 12th centuries AD. The entire landscape of the region is punctuated by huge man made reservoirs, veritable inland seas, the most famous of which is the Parakrama Samudra or the sea of Parakrama, larger in size than the Colombo Harbour. The monuments of this city mainly date from the reigns of Parakrama Bahu and the great King Nissanka Malla. Do not miss the Gal Vihare complex, with the fine sculptures of the recumbent, standing and seated Buddha. Lunch will be served at a deluxe hotel in Polonnaruwa.

Day 03
After breakfast depart to Anuradhapura – Sri Lanka’s first ancient capital, 5th century BC -9th century AD and center of the island’s Buddhist civilization. In antiquity and interest, it is the equal of any ancient “buried city”. The island’s oldest Buddhist shrines; some dating back to 3rd century BC are found here. Impressive white “dagabos”(relic chambers) and monuments, embellished with handsome stone carvings and sculpture, the oldest documented tree on earth – The Sri Maha Bodhi (over 2000 years old), pleasure gardens, beautifully executed stone baths and ponds, a superb irrigation system of reservoirs and canals are the attractions of Anuradhapura.
Lunch in a deluxe hotel in Anuradhapura. On completion return to Habarana – the strategic location for archaeological sight-seeing and natural beauty.
